Great progress to contain wildfire in Roseau County

Firefighters made progress toward controlling the fire burning in Roseau County. The fire went from 30 percent contained in the morning to 60 percent by Friday night.

The public will need to adhere to statewide burning restrictions and be cautious when operating machinery that can throw off sparks, said Ron Sanow, public information officer on the Juneberry 3 fire. That means extreme caution when driving a vehicle in tall grass, and welding or cutting operations on farms.

"And certainly by no means should we be thinking about burning rubbish or trash or any fall cleanup for that matter," he said.

The area of the fire is 33,000 acres. Gusty winds are expected to shift to the southwest Saturday. The fire has burned mostly in the Roseau River Wildlife Management Area. Nearby vacation homes have not been damaged.
