Man collapses in police custody, later dies

Three St. Paul police officers are on routine administrative leave after a man they arrested collapsed and later died.

The officers responded to a report of a loud fight on Thursday night and found a 51-year-old man acting erratically in an alley. Police say he collapsed after being handcuffed and paramedics were called.

WCCO-AM (http://cbsloc.al/qcOrXj ) says the man was taken to Regions Hospital where he died. The Ramsey County medical examiner's office performed an autopsy Friday on the man, identified as 51-year-old Joseph Anthony Garcia of St. Paul.

Results of toxicology tests are pending and the cause of death has not been determined. But police say the investigation indicates there were no signs of trauma to Garcia's body.

The officers are identified as Patrick Murphy, Nicole Rasmussen and Jennifer Mink.
