Minnesota's first election of 2012 will come in January.
Gov. Mark Dayton on Wednesday ordered a Jan. 10 special election to fill a state House seat for a Minneapolis district. Democrat Jeff Hayden resigned the seat when he won a special election this month for a state Senate vacancy.
Candidate filing opens on Thursday and runs through the middle of next week. Four people have already announced an intention to run for the seat in the heavily Democratic district.
If a primary is needed, it would happen on Dec. 6.
