Grand jury to review deputy-involved shooting

A Hennepin County grand jury will determine if any charges will be brought against a Winona County sheriff's deputy who fatally shot a man.

A spokesman for the Hennepin County Attorney's office tells KAGE-AM (http://bit.ly/tFHZmP) it's the office's policy to present the case to a grand jury if there is an officer-involved shooting.

The Hennepin County Attorney's office received the case last Thursday from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which investigated the Sept. 14 shooting.

Deputy John Hazelton shot and killed 25-year-old Chase Kolstad in Minnesota City. Authorities had gone to the area after getting reports that Kolstad may have been suicidal.

Hazelton returned to active duty in late October after being placed on standard administrative leave.
