Power knocked out briefly in Fargo area

An Xcel Energy spokesman says a widespread power outage in the Fargo area affecting tens of thousands of residents for about a half hour was a transmission level event that knocked two substations out of service.

Xcel Energy's Dave Sederquist tells KVLY television that the exact cause of the outage is still under investigation.

Cass County Electric says more than 7,000 of its customers in the south Fargo area west of Interstate 29 were also without electricity, but that power has been restored.
