An 11th grader at Anoka High School died this weekend after playing basketball at the Andover Community Center.

Principal Mike Farley said in a message to parents and students that Kareen Hopkins had a pre-existing heart condition.

Emergency responders were called to the center on a report of a teenager having a seizure. Hopkins was rushed to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Hopkins was 16-years old. District officials said he was not participating in a school-related activity at the time of his death.
