Homegrown Minneapolis meets to promote city mini-farmers

The city of Minneapolis is holding a community gathering Monday to celebrate and discuss its efforts to provide more healthy food in the city.

The city's Homegrown Minneapolis initiative has helped set up mini-farmers markets in low-income neighborhoods and expand community gardens. Program coordinator June Mathiowetz said she hopes the effort will make it easier for residents to access local food.

"We're linking arm in arm with folks in the community to really figure out what can we do to have a more sustainable healthy local food system that supports our community," she said.

The event starts tomorrow evening at 4:45 p.m. at the University Research and Outreach Center in north Minneapolis.
