Why the U issued a warning letter to one of its physicians

"I thought I was doing as good a job as could be done on the disclosure and complying with the university policies. I came up short in two or three instances where my 'I's' weren't perfectly dotted or 'T's' crossed. I acknowledge that and completely accept the responsibility that goes with it."

-- University of Minnesota spinal surgeon David Polly to MPR reporter Lorna Benson after he received a warning letter for failing to disclose -- in two published journal articles and a research poster -- that he'd received payments from the medical device manufacturer Medtronic.

The U has not recommended any discipline, and has said that Polly has generally complied with regulations, and that one incidence was probably an oversight.
