Mourners from around the state are expected Saturday in Lake City for the funeral of a police officer who was fatally wounded in the line of duty.

Lake City officer Shawn Schneider was shot and critically wounded Dec. 19 while responding to a domestic dispute. Schneider died 11 days later. He was 32 years old and left a wife and three young children.

Schneider's funeral begins at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lake City. Afterward there will be two processions to the cemetery, beginning with law enforcement and first responder agencies from around the state. The second procession will include Schneider's family and the officer's casket on a horse-drawn carriage. The family will be joined by police, fire and EMS from Wabasha and Goodhue counties and Lake City officials. A church bell will ring 261 times — once each for every Minnesota officer to have died in the line of duty.
