Prosecutors: Jilted Minn. boyfriend sets house on fire

Cass County prosecutors have charged a jilted boyfriend with attempted murder and arson in a fire at the home of his ex-girlfriend's parents.

A criminal complaint alleges 22-year-old Brandon Todd Sannan set the house in Chickama Beach on fire Jan. 8 and knew there were people inside. Timothy and Carla Voelke, six grandchildren and another minor child escaped the burning house, which was a total loss.

Authorities say the Voelkes' adult daughter had recently ended a relationship with Sannan. The complaint says Sannan admitted to investigators that he had stolen a lighter and gas can from a nearby residence where he spent the night and started the Voelkes' house on fire.

Sannan is charged with nine counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of arson. He's being held on $1 million unconditional bail.
