An 18-year-old Montevideo woman is dead after being stabbed in the parking lot of a Pizza Ranch restaurant.
Montevideo police got a call about a stabbing at 8:45 p.m. A nearby police officer responded to the scene just a few minutes later, according to Montevideo Police Chief Adam Christopher.
The officer found a man holding a large hunting knife standing over a woman on the ground, he said. Vinessa Lozano of Montevideo had been stabbed more than 30 times and died at a local hospital. The 24-year-old suspect was arrested but not yet charged.
The suspect had no prior contact with police, Christopher said. He says the man and Lozano weren't in a relationship.
"They were not dating," he said. "They had never dated. However the male suspect here appeared to have kind of an infatuation for her and that was not reciprocated."
Christopher says there were nearby witnesses who could've been in danger, but no one else was hurt.
