Bodies of 2 men pulled from Wright County lake

Authorities have recovered the bodies of two young men who went missing Saturday after falling through the ice on Lake Charlotte in Wright County.

Divers found the bodies on Sunday around 2:30 p.m. in the small body of water north of Rockford and northwest of the Twin Cities, said Wright County Sheriff Joe Hagerty.

The Sheriff's Department identified the bodies as Bradley Skafte, 20, of Buffalo and Adam Patnode, 19, of Corcoran.

"The sonar was able to detect two bodies down on the bottom of the lake -- about 45 feet of water and a snowmobile down there," Hagerty said. "We know there's an ATV down there as well. About mid-afternoon, somewhere around 2 o'clock, we were able to bring those two men up."

Authorities got a call late Saturday from witnesses who said the snowmobilers went through the ice.

"Just a couple young men that were riding on a snowmobile they had been working on during the day -- I think it's an older snowmobile -- they were shooting across the lake, gonna head to a friend's cabin on the northwest corner of the lake, but they didn't make it very far before they hit that open water," Hagerty said.

He told WCCO radio that gloves, boots and a hat were found floating in open water.

One man who went out to look for the snowmobilers also fell through the ice late Saturday. Officials say that man was pulled to safety.
