CAYCE, S.C. (AP) — The dynamics of the GOP presidential race in South Carolina have shifted dramatically this week after a series of events left the campaign in turmoil and left countless voters undecided about who to support.

Mitt Romney was positioned to win after his commanding victory in New Hampshire last week. But recent polls show he has slipped from the front of the pack to what he himself now describes as a neck-and-neck contest with Newt Gingrich.

Rick Santorum and Ron Paul trail in the surveys.

The outcome is anything but predictable as South Carolina voters head to the polls Saturday. (Copyright 2012 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
