SD man sentenced in hit-and-run Sturgis rally death

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- A Rapid City man accused in a hit-and-run death at least year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in western South Dakota has been sentenced to serve seven years in prison.

Robert Pittman, 34, late last year pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the death of 44-year-old Brian Bye, of Lincoln, Neb. Authorities say Pittman plowed into the back of Bye's motorcycle on state Highway 79 near Bear Butte on Aug. 10 and fled. He was arrested two days later.

KEVN-TV reports that Pittman also has been ordered to pay more than $4,500 in restitution to Bye's family.
