Minn. prosecutor hospitalized after tumor found

A western Minnesota prosecutor serving with the military overseas is hospitalized after doctors discovered a tumor on his pituitary gland.

Clay County Attorney Brian Melton is in a U.S. military hospital in Germany with what's described as a "significant" pituitary tumor.

Melton is a member of the Minnesota National Guard and had been stationed in Kuwait.

Interim County Attorney Michelle Lawson tells KFGO-AM of Fargo, N.D., that Melton began noticing symptoms from the tumor earlier this week.

Lawson says doctors will decide whether Melton will be flown to the U.S. for further treatment.

Melton has been on military leave from his county attorney position for nearly a year. He originally was scheduled to remain on active duty until this summer.
