Fiery I-94 crash closes westbound lanes near Hudson

Authorities now say the westbound lanes of Interstate 94, just west of Hudson, Wis., could be closed well into Monday afternoon after a tanker truck crashed into a bridge and burst into flames near the Roberts exit.

The driver was killed; no other vehicles were involved.

"The pavement has been compromised due to the fire," said Lt. Jeff Lorentz, of the Wisconsin State Patrol. "The fire was actually so hot it actually burned the oil out of the asphalt. So before we can open that up, engineers are looking at a temporary repair, which is going to take some time and they're looking at it right now and seeing what their options are going to be."

Lorentz says all eastbound traffic lanes in the area is open.
