A jury has convicted a Roseville man of second-degree murder in the hit-and-run death of a University of Minnesota student.

But jurors Tuesday did not find Timothy Bakdash, 29, guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Benjamin Van Handel, 23, of Appleton, Wis.

Bakdash was accused of running over a group of university students with his car after a night of drinking at a Dinkytown bar last April. Van Handel died six days later of brain injuries, and two women were seriously hurt.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said "justice was done in this case." He said Bakdash is likely to receive a sentence of about 25 years in prison.
