Michelle Obama is making her first visit to Minnesota as first lady.

Obama arrived Friday afternoon at the Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport to a crowd of National Guard members, their spouses and children at a military hanger.

Obama spoke in a roundtable discussion with nine other people, including the leaders of organizations that support military families by cutting their grass and paying for kids' sports equipment. The first lady said other states could learn from Minnesota.

"This state is one of the models because of so many of the things you all are doing," Obama said. "And I want to make sure that the rest of the nation understands how you work as a state, how your organizations come together."

The first lady is headlining a private fundraiser at the Walker Art Center tonight. Donors paid between $250 and $10,000 to attend.
