Wis. barn fire kills 600 baby chickens

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (AP) -- A barn fire in Racine County, Wis., has killed about 600 baby chickens.

The barn in Mount Pleasant went up in flames over the weekend. It was engulfed by the time firefighters arrived.

The barn owner raises chickens for eggs. The owner had just received a shipment of chicks that morning. All 600 died, and the barn was destroyed.

A Kenosha News report says no people were hurt, and no damage estimate was available.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, although authorities say it's not considered suspicious.

The fire was reported Saturday about 4:30 p.m.
