Teen killed after car tire goes flat

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A St. Paul man was killed when he was run over by a car he was attempting to exit.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the 19-year-old man was in the eastbound lanes of Highway 55 on the Mendota Bridge around 5:30 p.m. Thursday when a tire blew on his 1998 Nissan Maxima.

The patrol says he continued to drive a short distance before trying to get out of the moving vehicle. KSTP-TV says the man's foot got caught, causing him to fall into the traffic lane, where he was run over by his car.

The incident closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 55 over the bridge for more than two hours.
