New University of Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague says he can't wait to be part of the Big Ten.

Teague says he's looking forward to heading up the Gophers' sports program after spending the past six years at Virginia Commonwealth.

Teague is credited with making key hires at VCU that raised the basketball program to national prominence. Minnesota President Eric Kaler calls Teague a "visionary leader."

Teague will make a base salary of $400,000, on the low end for Big Ten athletic directors. He'll start July 1 if confirmed by university regents.

New University of Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague will be paid a base annual salary of $400,000, with incentives that could add up to another $100,000. A copy of Teague's contract was released Monday by the university. It allows for annual raises to be decided by President Eric Kaler.

Teague also gets the use of a car, up to $10,000 for family travel to and from university sports events and some ticket privileges.
