St. Bonifacius toddler death ruled homicide

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Hennepin County authorities have concluded that the death of a St. Bonifacius toddler two months ago was a homicide.

Cottrell Short was 19 months old when he was rushed to a hospital in February. He died the next day.

A medical examiner's report released Friday says he had a skull fracture, cuts to his head and torso and broken bones in his arm and leg.

His mother was charged last month with felony child neglect. Shacara Foster, 27, is being held without bail on a probation violation.

Sheriff Rich Stanek said Friday that no arrests have been made for the homicide. He declined to say whether new charges might be added, but he did say the conclusion that the death was a homicide changes the nature of the investigation.
