Police call Mpls. shooting a 'gun battle'

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Two people are hospitalized, three are in custody and a Minneapolis police officer is on administrative leave after what authorities describe as a "gun battle" in a downtown warehouse club district.

Sgt. Steve McCarty tells WCCO radio an officer spotted two groups of people at an intersection about 2 a.m. Monday and one person was firing a gun. An officer then fired his revolver and the groups scattered. Two men were injured, but are expected to survive. Police arrested three on misdemeanors.

McCarty says the shooting is still under investigation.
