There's a distinct food theme to this weekend's festivals.
• Bring goggles if you're thinking of heading out to toss some tomatoes Saturday near the Metrodome. If you're wondering how you'll clean off the mashed tomato afterward, they'll be kind enough to hose participants down. Midwest Tomato Fest

• The Great Minnesota Pie Extravaganza will take place at the Forest History Center in Grand Rapids from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, celebrating the special place that pie has always had in American culture.
