Hundreds search for missing Iowa cousins

EVANSDALE, Iowa (AP) -- More than 350 volunteers have joined authorities in searching for two young cousins from Iowa whose bicycles were found abandoned near a lake.

The Des Moines Register reports that the investigation into the disappearance of 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins and her 10-year-old cousin, Lyric Cook-Morrissey, entered its third day Sunday.

Authorities say the girls were last seen shortly after noon Friday in downtown Evansdale, about 100 miles northeast of Des Moines. Their bikes were found at nearby Meyers Lake a few hours after they were reported missing.

Black Hawk County Sheriff's deputy Rick Abben says authorities have found no other clues, but managed to search about 40 percent of the lake by Sunday afternoon. They also are interviewing family, friends, and registered sex offenders who live in the area.
