BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) -- A small experimental aircraft has crashed in Upper Whitefish Lake near Brainerd.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Federal Aviation Administration confirms the crash killed the pilot and injured a passenger.
FAA spokesman Roland Herwig in Oklahoma City says the Skystar Kitfox 4 fixed-wing, single-engine plane crashed Sunday morning. He says the aircraft was submerged about 75 yards offshore. The FAA will investigate, and will report the crash to the National Transportation Safety Administration.
Herwig told the Pioneer Press he had no further details. Local authorities didn't immediately release further information. The FAA website says the aircraft was amateur-built in 2008.
