Man turns himself in for Mpls. shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A 23-year-old man accused of paralyzing another man after shooting him at a Minneapolis public library has turned himself in.

Timothy Harper is charged with first-degree assault for shooting a homeless man inside the Franklin Library bathroom around 12:30 p.m. June 13. The shooting left 42-year-old Macdad Abdullahi paralyzed.

Court documents say Abdullahi was brushing his teeth when Harper entered the bathroom and started talking to the victim. Abdullahi wasn't paying attention and didn't hear Harper, who was allegedly trying to rob him.

Shortly thereafter, Harper allegedly shot Abdullahi in the lower back and ran.

Minneapolis police investigators identified Harper as the suspect but learned he left the Twin Cities.

KMSP-TV reports he turned himself into police Tuesday and admitted to the shooting.
