Ivey Awards celebrate Twin Cities pro theater

It's not an Oscar or a Tony or an Emmy _ it's an Ivey. And it honors the best in Twin Cities professional theater over the past year.

The eighth annual Ivey Awards will be held Monday night, Sept. 24, at the Historic State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis.

Tickets are now available online. The event is open to the public.

The Iveys were established in 2004. There are no nominees, set number of awards or pre-determined award categories. Instead, volunteers evaluate performances on stages across the Twin Cities, and the public also gets to rate plays.

Twin Cities actress Shanan Custer will host this year's Ivey Awards.

The Iveys are named after the Ivey, a Minneapolis restaurant in the 1900s that was popular with performers and theatergoers.
