Man arrested to end Bloomington standoff

Police have arrested a 50-year-old man to end a nearly 9-hour standoff that prompted some evacuations in Bloomington.

Deputy Police Chief Rick Hart says officers broke into the man's apartment around 2 p.m. Tuesday and arrested him.

Hart says police don't know if the man had a weapon. The standoff began after a man pointed a laser light at a passer-by and then at an officer at about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

At first the man was in an abandoned home. When officers responded, the man ran across the street to his apartment.

Hart says the man fell and hurt his arm while running. Paramedics were checking him out, and the man had not been booked yet.

Residents were evacuated from the apartment building during the standoff and streets blocked off.
