The St. Paul police crime lab's drug testing has been shut down. There's an independent review going on about the problems at the lab. It's an important place because the drug, fingerprint and crime scene evidence that gets handled there is used to convict people of crimes.
MPR News' Madeleine Baran walks us through the lab and the questions that remain.
The geography of the place is important to understanding the remaining questions about the crime lab's practices.
However, the police won't let the public or reporters inside. The closest we can get is a map of the lab drawn from memory by Jamie Sipes, a police officer who works there. He drew it while testifying in court this month.
