Gun debate is can't-miss for some activists

People who feel strongly about the gun debate are scheduling their lives around meetings at the Capitol.

Legislators debated gun bills in committee meetings over the past few weeks. Advocates on both sides say a few hundred people adapted their lives to be there, too.

St. Paul resident Ann Mongoven attends with her church group, which supports gun control.

"My whole family really sort of knows that if there is a hearing all of a sudden scheduled," she said, "we would have a meeting and try to figure out if there's a way that everybody can cover all of the other things I was supposed to be doing."

Gun rights supporter Mitch Berg, also of St. Paul, said he is lucky to have an IT job with flexible hours.

"Not everyone here is as lucky or as flexible," Berg said. "There's people here who have to make bigger adjustments and sacrifices. I mean there's people taking vacation time."

Berg and Mongoven say they are ready as gun bills are headed to the Senate and House floors.
