The University of Minnesota is in the market for a new head coach for its men's basketball team.

Tubby Smith was fired yesterday after coaching the team for six seasons.

His dismissal came a day after the Gophers were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

At a press conference, Athletic Director Norwood Teague said the tournament loss was just one factor that led to the decision.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Howard Sinker, digital sports editor for the Star Tribune, for his thoughts on the firing and who might be the next coach of the team.
