Thriller writer Owen Laukkanen takes readers back to the criminal underground of Minnesota in his second book, "Criminal Enterprise."

His first bestseller, "The Professionals," chronicled the mayhem that four college grads-turned-kidnappers spread through Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.

"Criminal Enterprise" tells the story of a laid-off St. Paul accountant-turned-thrill-seeking-robber and killer who starts out doing taxes for senior citizens and pulling off a bank robbery every few weeks to pay the bills.

From Kirkus Reviews:

With this second thriller in a series, Laukkanen's latest provides an entertaining worst-case scenario of an accountant gone bad.

Fans of crime thrillers shouldn't miss this one or anything else with Laukkanen's name on the cover. The writing is so crisp, the pages almost want to turn themselves. He's a terrific storyteller.

Laukkanen will appear at 7 p.m. Thursday at Once Upon a Crime Bookstore, 604 W. 26th St., Minneapolis.
