The proposed Northern Lights Express, a high-speed passenger rail line between Duluth and Minneapolis, could carry passengers between the two cities in a little over two hours. The 155-mile line would run mostly on existing track from BNSF, and would reach speeds of 110 mph.
But the line still has some hurdles to clear before becoming a reality. Dan Krom, director of the Minnesota Department of Transportation's Passenger Rail Office, joins The Daily Circuit to discuss the proposed route, the cost and the chances the line will win approval. A public hearing on the line will be held Thursday night at the Cambridge Armed Forces Reserve Community Center in Cambridge, Minn.
