Fans already want Metrodome souvenirs

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Demolition of the Minnesota Vikings' stadium isn't expected to begin until early 2014. But, already fans have their sights on scrap souvenirs.

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, which operates the Metrodome, says it's received more than 50 requests for seats, signs, turf and other mementoes. Authority chairwoman Michele Kelm-Helgen says the requests vary.

The community of Perham wants rows of seats to create a VIP section at its own ballpark. The Chanhassen Athletic Association has requested some turf and the dugouts. Kelm-Helgen says there are also individual requests for a special seat associated with a marriage proposal or first date.

KARE-TV says the MSFA is still working on a formal process for dealing with the requests and is considering hiring an outside salvage company to help.
