"The Great Gatsby," the latest spectacle from Baz Luhrmann, opens on Friday. The Los Angeles Times says "'Gatsby' has arguably eclipsed every other 2013 film release in terms of pre-release hype."
In The New Yorker, critic David Denby dismisses it as "a frantic jumble" and a "flimsy phantasmagoria."
So what's the view from The Daily Circuit? Kerri Miller and Stephanie Curtis will talk about the glittering 3-D adaptation. "It's not a train wreck," Stephanie says, "but don't expect to see a work with depth equal to the novel."
