The Northside Achievement Zone is a collaborative effort to boost educational achievement for thousands of kids in an area of north Minneapolis that's been in the works for about a decade.

April 2004: Peace Foundation (predecessor to Northside Achievement Zone) formed in Minneapolis

March 2010: Northside Achievement Zone participant killed in north Minneapolis

February 2011: Northside Achievement Zone doesn't win grant, but moves forward anyway

May 2011: Tornado hits north Minneapolis

December 2011: Northside Achievement Zone awarded 5-year $28 million grant
