ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A mother who allowed her developmentally delayed teenage daughter to be prostituted has been sentenced to six months in the Ramsey County Correctional Facility.
Prosecutors say the Woodbury woman repeatedly put her daughter directly in harm's way. Prosecutor Tara Patet says the 19-year-old has the intellect of a 5 or 6-year-old and became pregnant after having sex with numerous men at a Roseville hotel last July. Authorities say her mother dropped her off at the hotel.
The teen's guardian told the court Wednesday the teen does not want contact with her mother, who told Judge Gary Bastian that she would like to help her daughter heal.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press says the mother, sentenced for criminal neglect, does not have the option of work release or home confinement.
