STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) -- Motorists will find the Stillwater Lift Bridge temporarily closed Wednesday.
The bridge across the St. Croix River between Minnesota and Wisconsin is scheduled to close at noon. Transportation officials say the bridge is expected to reopen to motorists by 4 p.m.
The closure is necessary as crew begin repairing cable and inspecting the bridge lift system. MnDOT was able to find a cable locally to repair the bridge.
Crews hope to have the bridge fully operational and open to water traffic by the end of the week, weather permitting.
On Sunday night, a bridge operator detected a frayed cable on the lift system of the bridge. As a precaution, the normal lift schedule was suspended, so the bridge can't be lifted for bigger boats for now.
