The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis celebrates its 50th anniversary with a gala performance on Saturday night and a free community celebration on Sunday.
The gala performance will include appearances by many actors and singers who have starred in Guthrie shows over the years. Hosted by Guthrie favorites Greta Oglesby and Sally Wingert, the large cast includes Whoopi Goldberg, Tracie Bennett and T.R. Knight.
Sunday's event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include behind-the-scenes tours, stage fighting demonstrations, and a special 5K run across the Stone Arch Bridge and into surrounding neighborhoods.
At 11 a.m., Guthrie director Joe Dowling will be joined by U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak to welcome visitors and to mark the Guthrie's long history and influence in Minnesota.
