A 5-year-old boy accidentally shot his 9-year-old sister at an Oakdale home, but she is expected to survive.
Police say the girl was shot in the upper chest at about 6:30 p.m. and taken a St. Paul hospital.
Oakdale police officer Michelle Stark says was in stable condition Friday night with a noncritical injury.
Stark says the girl, whose name was not released, was shot in the living room of her family's home. A .22-caliber rifle was apparently left out for repairs.
Their parents and three other children were home at the time.
Police are investigating whether adults who were in the house negligently stored the loaded weapons and where the boy picked up the rifle.
