AG: Minn. woman is mother of remains found in SD

South Dakota's attorney general says investigators have made contact with a Minnesota woman who gave birth to two newborns found dead in November in a rural shelterbelt.

Her name wasn't released.

The decomposed tissue and bones were found Nov. 2 on private land near Astoria in eastern South Dakota. State and local officials had said they were investigating the case as a homicide.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says investigators have contacted the mother, who lives in Minnesota. He says he can't make additional comments until South Dakota and Minnesota prosecutors make final charging decisions.

Experts concluded that the remains were about 40 weeks old and capable of living outside the uterus. Investigators have been gathering additional information from an autopsy report and a forensic anthropological evaluation.
