Guitar lovers in Minnesota will have a chance to catch one of the nation’s best players tonight when Fareed Haque brings his new ensemble MathGames! to the Whiskey Junction in Minneapolis.
Born in 1963 to a Pakistani father and Chilean mother, Haque is a guitar virtuoso who has traveled to Spain, France, Pakistan and Chile, absorbing a variety of cultures and styles. His playing reflects his interest in classical guitar, jazz and Latin music – versatility that led him to work Cuban saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera.
A professor of jazz at Northern Illinois University, Haque also is known for his own recordings and for his group Garaj Mahal. For his latest ensemble, which employs a different genres, tempos and beats, Haque uses multiple instruments, including the Moog guitar.
Also performing tonight will be guitarist Todd Clouser and his band A Love Electric.
