Jilted bride donates reception to care group

MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) -- A bride who has already spent thousands of dollars on a dream wedding is donating her reception to a Moorhead organization that serves people with disabilities.

Michelle Marxen says the Oct. 19 event was her "fairy tale wedding," complete with a ballroom reception, a great band, limos and fabulous flowers.

Then Marxen says she got a phone call from her fiance the day the wedding invitations were sent. He didn't want to go through with it. Even though the wedding was off, contracts had been signed and vendors had to be paid.

Marxen tells WDAY-TV her special day instead will be a special day for the Creative Care for Reaching Independence organization. The ballroom at the Ramada in Fargo, N.D., will host a Halloween celebration for CCRI clients.
