The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to close Interstate 35E in St. Paul over the weekend for construction.
The closure starts at 10 pm on Friday. It will affect the stretch between Interstate 94 and Highway 36.
MnDOT crews will install a pipe under the roadway.
The construction is part of a major re-do of 35E. MnDOT plans to replace a number of aging bridges and improve access in the Phalen Boulevard corridor. The project, which includes new MnPASS lanes from Maryland Avenue to Little Canada Road, is scheduled to be completed in two years.
This weekend MnDOT recommends that drivers take an alternative route or follow the posted detour to Highway 36, Interstate 694 and Interstate 94.
The road will be reopened at 5 am on Monday morning.
