Outgoing head of U of W system reflects on career

The president of the University of Wisconsin system, Kevin Reilly, is stepping down from his position after nine years on the job. He hopes to return to teaching and serve as a presidential adviser on education.

Reilly came under criticism from Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and the Legislature earlier this year for financial practices that included maintaining a cash reserve in the hundreds of millions, the Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reported:

In a news conference, Reilly said he started talking about a transition in leadership last fall and winter and said the recent tumult in the Legislature did not accelerate his departure.

"In a nine-year span of leadership, you have periods that are tumultuous and you have some that are calm," he said. "I think experienced leaders expect that roller coaster ride along the way."
