Decker was on duty last Nov. 29 when he responded to a report of a possibly suicidal man in an apartment above a downtown bar. He was shot behind the bar as he looked for the man in question, who police later cleared in the shooting.

A second man whom police were prepared to arrest for the killing committed suicide in early January.
