A man died early today when his car went over the guard rail on the Bloomington Ferry Bridge between Bloomington and Shakopee.
The Minnesota State Patrol identified the driver as Steven Whiting, 48, of Shakopee.
State Patrol Public Information Officer Lt. Eric. Roeske said a hunter near the Minnesota River's shore called the state patrol at 8:25 a.m. to report the accident.
Roeske said it appears that the man lost control of the car, which went over the guardrail and hit the ground about 40 feet below. The Buick LeSabre landed on its roof. Roeske said conditions were reportedly icy.
The accident likely happened some hours before it was discovered, Roeske said. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
