Ticket deadline extended to avert Packers blackout

The Green Bay Packers have won a deadline extension to sell out Sunday's home playoff game and avoid a TV blackout.

With about 3,000 tickets remaining, the Packers said Thursday the NFL granted the team's request for an extension. The new deadline is 4 p.m. Friday.

If the game against the San Francisco 49ers isn't sold out, there will be a blackout in local TV markets, including Green Bay, the Fox Cities, Milwaukee and Wausau.

With a long waiting list for season tickets, not selling out a playoff game is an unusual scenario for the Packers. The last time a Packers home game didn't sell out was in January 1983 when they hosted the St. Louis Cardinals in a first-round playoff game in a strike-shortened season.
