A well-traveled bumper sticker says that when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. There may be truth in that slogan.
MPR News reporter Brandt Williams has looked carefully at gun crime in Hennepin County. Among his findings: Tighter restrictions on legal firearms may not be the answer. According to his latest story, "In many cases, suspected gunmen are already legally banned from possessing guns."
After examining hundreds of gun-related crimes over the past year, Williams found that "More than a third of the alleged offenders in those cases were already under a firearms ban because of past convictions for serious offenses."
